Florida Nautical Surveyors

The business was founded by Malcolm Elliott, whose maritime background began as a cadet engineering officer and progressed to chief engineer. He later worked as a marine troubleshooter for a German shipping company and gained experience in marine engineering and boat building. That background informs the technical approach across their service lines, which spans both commercial and recreational vessel systems, including structural integrity, propulsion systems, and performance optimization.

Beyond surveys, the team offers engineering and mechanical work. This includes engine diagnostics, propulsion system work, hull modifications, and electrical system installations and upgrades. Their mechanical repair capabilities cover inboard and outboard engines, generator systems, and related propulsion components. They are familiar with both classic vessels and modern yachts equipped with current marine electronics and digital systems.

Marine electrical and electronics work ranges from basic wiring issues to more complex navigation and communication system installations. Owners who want a single point of contact can use their yacht management service. It involves coordinating maintenance schedules, seasonal preparations, emergency repairs, and vendor relationships.

Florida Nautical Surveyors holds a 4.1 rating on Google based on 9 reviews. Most reviewers praise the thoroughness of the survey work and the professional expertise behind it. Clients frequently mention that the team can accommodate short-notice scheduling. They also point to detailed reports that include professional opinions, and to accurate assessments that help buyers make informed decisions.

The feedback is not uniformly positive. Some reviewers raised concerns about billing disputes and customer service. Prospective clients may want to ask for an estimate that clearly defines the scope of work and how it will be billed before they book. Confirming those details in advance is a sensible step with any marine service provider.

For boat buyers, owners, and managers in the Fort Lauderdale area, Florida Nautical Surveyors offers a mix of survey, engineering, electrical, mechanical, and management services under one business. Their strongest feedback centers on survey work, where reviewers describe the reports and professional opinions as useful when making a purchase decision. The mixed comments on billing and customer service are worth weighing alongside that praise when comparing providers.
