Sea Tow Miami in North Bay Village: Services and Membership

Sea Tow Miami runs towing and on-water assistance for recreational boats from North Bay Village, covering the Miami area with tows, fuel delivery, jump-starts, ungroundings and salvage. Sea Tow also sells a membership. You pay ahead of time, so a breakdown inside your home area doesn't also bring a towing bill, though the terms change once you're outside it.

Services and the boats it covers

On its Miami page, Sea Tow Miami lists boat towing, fuel delivery, jump-starts and ungroundings, with its boats positioned around the service area to shorten response times. The captains are Coast Guard licensed. Salvage is part of the work too, from boats on the rocks to boats that are actively sinking. In those cases the crew can work directly with your insurance company and bring in any resources the job needs.

Coverage extends to inshore, offshore and destination sportfishing trips. Offshore mileage isn't capped. How far out a crew will run is left to the local captain and the conditions, so ask before you count on a long run home from the edge of the Gulf Stream.

Away from emergencies, the page lists support work such as launch services, line handling, crew changes, escort services, vessel charters and long-distance coastal towing. On Boatwork, Sea Tow Miami's profile is also tagged for diving and underwater services, boat repair and maintenance, environmental management and marine handyman work.

What the membership includes

On its national membership page, Sea Tow calls the Gold Card its most popular level. It's meant for coastal and inland boating. The Lake Card, which covers fresh, non-tidal water, isn't sold in Florida, so the Gold Card is the likely fit for a Miami owner; ask what other levels are offered. As listed, it covers:

  • Towing inside your home area with no cap on distance or cost, and priority over non-members
  • A tow of up to 25 miles from your home port to a repair facility for covered vessels. The page doesn't spell out how this works alongside unlimited home-area towing, so ask Sea Tow which one applies when the nearest yard sits outside your home area.
  • Fuel delivery, jump-starts, oil and parts delivery, covered ungroundings and disentanglements (freeing a prop or running gear from line, net or trap rope)
  • 24/7 priority service, with captains routinely arriving in under an hour from more than 500 ports nationwide

Nationally, Sea Tow says nearly 45% of service calls are resolved without a tow. A $5,000 reimbursement applies when you need help outside all Sea Tow areas. If you boat outside Sea Tow Miami's service area, the page says it works closely with the neighboring Sea Tow operation to get you priority service.

Sea Tow also compares membership with paying per tow. As of October 2026, it puts the average daytime towing rate at about $300 an hour, a short tow at about $850 on average, and longer tows at over $2,000. Rates can climb at night and in bad weather. A pay-per-tow outfit will quote its own rate, so get that number before you decide.

What reviewers report

Boatwork's summary of Sea Tow Miami's reviews describes two very different experiences. Owners who were happy name captains who showed up fast, kept them informed and got them off sandbars or back to the marina safely. Others report long waits, dropped service calls, disputed dinghy impoundments, and memberships ended over disagreements. Read both kinds of review on the profile before you join.

Comparing it with other providers

As of October 2026, Sea Tow Miami is the only diving and underwater services pro Boatwork lists in North Bay Village. The North Bay Village marine pros list shows who else works nearby. Sea Tow Key Biscayne is another Sea Tow listing on Boatwork, so ask which operation's service area takes in your home port.

When you compare towing options, check:

  • How each provider defines your home area
  • How far a covered tow will take you
  • Whether fuel delivery and jump-starts are included
  • What reviewers say about response times at night and in rough weather

Repair work is a separate decision from towing. Once the boat is back at the dock, routine yard jobs like bottom paint mean comparing independent yards, not towing memberships. Our guide to what drives a fiberglass bottom paint quote shows how to compare quotes from the pros you choose.

Questions worth asking before you sign up

  • Which marina or ramp is my home port, and where does my home area end? The unlimited towing only applies inside that area, and the 25-mile tow to a repair facility is measured from your home port.
  • Who comes when I'm outside the home area, and how does the out-of-all-areas reimbursement work? Find out which neighboring operation would answer the call and what records you'd need to keep.
  • What are the terms for canceling or ending a membership, and what is your policy on impounding dinghies? Both issues come up in the disputed reviews. Get the answers in writing.
