Spring Boat Detailing Checklist: Get Ready for the Season

Spring Boat Detailing Checklist: Get Ready for the Season

After storage, your boat needs more than a quick wash. A thorough spring detailing protects your investment and helps spot issues before they become problems.

Exterior Detailing

Hull and Topsides

  1. Rinse to remove loose dirt
  2. Wash with marine soap (not dish soap)
  3. Remove waterline stains with hull cleaner
  4. Address oxidation with rubbing compound
  5. Polish to restore shine
  6. Wax or seal for UV protection (best products)

💡 Pro Tip

Work in sections, keep surface wet. Never let soap dry on gelcoat.

Metal Hardware

  • Polish stainless and chrome
  • Clean aluminum with appropriate cleaner
  • Check hardware security
  • Apply corrosion inhibitor

Canvas and Vinyl

  • Clean canvas with specific cleaner, apply waterproofing
  • Clean vinyl seats, treat mold, apply UV protectant
  • Never use bleach on vinyl—it causes cracking

Systems Check

  • Test all lights and electronics
  • Check battery condition (battery guide)
  • Test bilge pumps
  • Verify safety equipment
  • Inspect through-hulls
